Celebrating Baby Kaylee - Mia Rose Cake

Sorry this picture is sideways.  I've tried EVERYTHING to get it right side up!!!!!!!!  I made this cake for one of my BEST friends baby shower.  She is expecting her first child (Kaylee) and I was blessed enough to be asked to make the cake!!!!!!  Her shower theme was . . . you guessed it pink and brown.  So I chose to base her cake off of her baby bedding CoCaLo Mia Rose
The top tier was a 4" cake which I made from pound cake.  The middle tier was strawberry cake with a chocolate mousse filling.  While the bottom was death by chocolate, dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse.  All the layers were iced in chocolate butter cream.  The 3 tiers are covered and decorated in fondant.  The pink fondant is strawberry MMF and the brown fondant is chocolate MMF.  The name plate, butterflies and middle tier were all hand painted.  I had SO much fun with this cake, it's the first one in a while that I haven't had any instructions and got to just design and go.

Dr. Seuss New Fish Baby Shower

This was for a baby shower with a Dr. Seuss theme "One fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, New Fish." The top tier was honey ginger cake with caramel apple filling and the bottom layer was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. It was covered and decorated in MMF and hand painted.

Felp Wedding Cake

This is my second wedding cake!  She wanted the flavors to resemble the fall them so I made the top tier was a honey ginger cake with a caramel apple filling, the middle tier was a spiced apple cake with a salted caramel filling, and the bottom layer was chocolate cake with caramel filling and drizzled with a caramel sauce for all the chocolate lovers.  The cake was then covered and decorated with MMF and the leaves were hand painted to add depth and detailing.

Felps Wedding - Groom's Cake

Our friend asked me to make a special cake for the groom.  She wanted it to resemble a bottle cap from his favorite drink.  The cake board was covered in fondant and hand painted to look like wood.  The cake was his favorite flavors, yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling.  It was then covered in MMF and hand painted.  TFL!!!!!!!!!

Bach Wedding!

This was my very first wedding cake!  Our friends asked me to be the one to have the honors in making their wedding cake.  The top and bottom layer were lemon cake with vanilla BC and lemon filling alternating the torted layers.  The middle layer was white cake with lemon filling.  The border was hand pipped on and the "ribbon" and monogram were made from MMF and then painted with an edible gold paint.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to the wedding (I was in my first trimester and puking), so my husband got to be the one to deliver the cake.  While during transit there was a bit of a traffic problem and to avoid an accident he had to hit the breaks.  This caused the middle tier to shift ever so slightly and mess up the hand piped border.  Luckily I sent him with a repair kit.  For someone who's NEVER touched a piping bag in his life he did a really good job fixing the problem!

Welcome to Our Nest!

I'm not sure how this one got left out!  This is the cake I made for our house warming party.  It was covered in MMF (Marshmallow fondant) and had fondant letters and eggs.  The boarder is out of vanilla BC and the nest was made from dark chocolate.  The bottom cake was chocolate with fresh strawberry slices and a vanilla whipped topping and the top layer was vanilla cake with a chocolate mousse and fresh strawberries slices.   TFL!

Beachy Birthday!

My friend asked me to make her daughter's 8th birthday cake. It was a 6" and 8" stacked cake. She wanted it to be a beach theme with a beach ball on top. This is what I came up with. It is covered and decorated with MMF. TFL!

Great Expectations!

My very good friend Sarah wanted me to make her sister's baby shower cake. She was using the decorations and invitations from the Great Expectations line and wanted the cake to co-ordinate.  This was a 6" cake (they were also having cupcakes).  The cake was covered in and decorated with MMF.

Groom's Cake

I made this for my friend Daniel's grooms cake. He wanted chocolate cake and chocolate mint butter cream. This was my first time make a can and hand painting! I'm SO glad it turned out pretty well and best of all he loved it!  I used drops of piping gel for the sweat on the can.

Flowers and Butterfly

I made this cake for a friend who was hosting Mother's Day. It was my first attempt at a butterfly. My cutter and impression mat didn't arrive on time, so I improvised and used a stamp!  She wanted a white cake with a white butterfly.  If I had it to do again, I would have tried harder to get her to let me put just a hint of color into the butterfly, to help it stand out.  I forgot to take a picture after I piped in the centers of the flowers, I used a small dot off vanilla BC.

30th Birthday

This was for my PHENOMENAL friend Erin's birthday. The bottom cake was a Piña colada cake with a coconut cream filling. The top tier was a dark chocolate cake, the filling alternated with white chocolate mousse with sliced strawberries and chocolate whipped mousse with strawberry slices. This was my first attempt at a shoe, zebra strips, shoe boxes and royal icing stenciling. I got the cake boards a little too big.   I wish they'd have been a smidge smaller so you couldn't see them.  The cakes, stripes and shoe were made from MMF.  TFL!!!!

Daisy Birthday

This was for a 21st birthday. Her sister was getting her white daisies, so she wanted a pink cake (birthday girls fav color) and white daisies to coordinate with the flowers. This was my first attempt at edible paint and daisies. TFL!

Tiara

This was a little girls birthday cake (for a friend's niece). The cake is vanilla with chocolate mousse and covered in MMF. The bow and beads are also made of MMF.  I then lightly dusted the "pearls" with edible glitter to add a little bit of shine.

TMNT

This is a birthday cake I did for my brother's 22nd birthday. He was a HUGE fan as a kid. It was a light orange cake with an orange mousse filling and iced with vanilla butter cream. The turtle heads were molded from rice treats (this was my first attempt at molding with RKT) and then covered with fondant. The cake and cake board are also covered with fondant and lightly dusted with an edible silver powder for added depth. (while it's hard to tell the lid is the same color as the cake).

Allspark

This was done for my nephews birthday. He wanted a chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse AND chocolate butter cream icing. I then cut small sections out of the cake to resemble dents and missing chunks. It is covered in marshmallow fondant. I then hand carved into the fondant (some shapes and symbols) and dusted it with a silver edible powder for added shine!  This is my first attempt at a squared cake.

Poker!

This was for my dad's 55th birthday. Every Friday the guys in the neighborhood get together and play poker. So, I thought this would be a wonderful theme for his birthday!  The cake is a chocolate cake, with peanut butter mousse filling (I added chopped up Reese's piece to the filling)  and covered with chocolate frosting. I then used marshmallow fondant to cover the cake, make the poker chips and the playing cards. The white poker chips and playing cards were then hand painted with diluted food coloring or piped on.

Strawberry ShortCake!

Since my sister and my dad's birthdays are so close together we also celebrated her birthday that night.  Strawberry Shortcake was one of her FAVORITE things when we were growing up.

I made a vanilla cake with a white chocolate strawberry mousse filling, iced in vanilla butter cream and decorated with fondant accents. I then used a candle for the decoration on top (haven't built up enough courage to try and mold a person yet). Though it is hard to see in this picture the words "happy birthday" along with some balloons are pressed into the white fondant.  When it came time to eat this, my niece thought the green balls were peas!
